Bankruptcy Court Staff meet Super Bowl Champion New York Giants at Custom House

by Kevin J. Woodhouse

February 5, 2008 will long be remembered by many of the staff members of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. It was on that day that they were able to meet some of their heroes and find out that they were just very regular folks after all.

The Alexander Hamilton U.S. Customs House, located at the end of Broadway (AKA the Canyon of Heroes), was used as the location for a morning reception to welcome the New York Giants Team, Coaches and staff to New York after their victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

This building also houses the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. A number of the staff members attended the reception, which was also attended by Mayor Michael Blumberg, Governor Elliot Spitzer and Senator Chuck Schumer. But the real treat of course was meeting the Giants, Eil Manning, Mike Strahan, Amani Toomer, Antonio Pierce, David Tyree, Coach Tom Coughlin and the other members of the team and coaching staff.

The Giants were great. Signing shirts, caps, posters and footballs and taking pictures with all the guests. For the staff who were not able to get into the reception the team members came out of the reception area and gave out autographs and took pictures with them too. Both the NFC trophy and the Super Bowl Trophy were present and everyone seemed to enjoy the event immensely.

In what seemed like a very short time the Giants had to leave the confines of the Custom House to begin their journey up the Canyon of Heroes, up to City Hall, where Mayor Blumberg gave each or them a key to the City of New York.

Afterwards, the Giants would go back to the Meadowlands Complex in New Jersey and hold a rally at Giant Stadium. They have tried very hard to share their success with their fans. More so, I think, than any other New York Team has before. Perhaps it’s because the victory was so unexpected by so many. Who knows? It can only truly be said that every one had a great time here at the tip of Manhattan.
